Message From
Principal
The
Indonesian international School Yangon (IISY) is one
of the Indonesian schools aboard which was originally
founded as a diplomatic school. Its purpose was to provide primary
and high school education for the children of the Indonesian Embassy
staff and for the children of Indonesian families living in Myanmar.
One of its main missions was to be an agent of culture.
In 2004 the school became an international school which then offered
education to not only Indonesian students, but to Myanmar students
and to other nationalities. As a result of this decision, to
communicate with one another, English (being an international
language) was adopted and is now spoken both in and out of the
classroom.
To accommodate and to teach the different nationalities we have
recruited teachers from Myanmar, Europe and Australia. These
teachers have special qualifications to be teachers at IISY. In this
current academic year 2006/2007, we have 26 teachers and 15 staff
members. Myanmar people make up 75% of the employed staff.
At IISY we have designed a curriculum and a program to meet the
needs of our students. It is a curriculum that provides a way that
can be followed and understood by the Indonesian, Myanmar and other
nationality students. We have combined Indonesian, (stated by
Depdiknas) Myanmar, and International curriculums within a framework
that is both exciting and challenging. It is a curriculum that
should satisfy most students The curriculum will help the teachers
and students alike. For teachers it will promote the development of
better quality teaching methodologies and teaching practices. For
students the curriculum offers subjects that will be interesting and
enjoyable. Students will again skills, knowledge, and qualifications
that will prepare them for their careers. In addition, it will
prepare them for further education and equip them for their life.
Also in the design of our learning program we have developed our
curriculum with reference to the four pillars of education. These
are:
• Learning to know
• Learning to do
• Learning to live together
• Learning to be
Many of our activities are designed to increase a student's
knowledge and to improve their skills so as to prepare a firm
foundation for their future. In preparing a firm foundation, we have
therefore included information technology (IT) as a subject. We have
realized that information technology increasingly plays an important
role in life so it has become one of our major educational programs.
Another important activity that we have is the extra-curricula
program. We support our overall academic program by encouraging all
students to participate in this program. There is a wide and varied
range of activities which, depending upon student interest and the
availability of facilities and materials, will vary from time to
time.
At IISY our aim is to provide quality education of the highest order
for all of our students irrespective of where they come from. We
want to provide a friendly and relax atmosphere so as to maximize a
student's learning. We want our students to enjoy school and treat
is like a second home. Moreover, we would like the student to see
their teachers as second parents while they are at school.
In stating our aims and our activities, we recognize that the
indonesian Embassy in Yangon, the parents, the students, the
teachers, and the school administration are all involved in the
process of education. We thank everyone for their support and
co-operation.
Finally in this era of globalization, it is our hope that IISY will
be able to respond in an effective and relevant way to the modern
needs of education.
Best
Regards
RAHMAN PRIAELMU
